Ultimate Girlhood Experience: Learning How to Paint Our Own Nails

By: Carley Taylor

We’ve all been there right? Sitting in the nail salon feeling like they should’ve been done by now, thinking that maybe that color wasn’t the right choice, that the vibes are a little awkward, and paying a little too much but knowing you could never do what they just did.

Me and Ashly completely acknowledge that our paint at home jobs will never be as good as the pros, but the experience has been completely worth it. Picking out colors that are out of our comfort zone because they’ll definitely chip in maybe a week or less, getting so many cute accessories such as nail files or cuticle oil in pink packaging, and slowly learning how to paint our own nails.

The first time we painted our nails was definitely a long process. We took way to long to pick out our colors, to file our nails, and weren’t exactly the most patient or skilled when it came to painting them. In the times after, we switched up our colors in fun ways as we realized we could have so much fun with it and that it wasn’t really a big deal if they weren’t perfect which ultimately made them look even better.

Instead of sitting in the nail salon and barely talking to each other we now are sitting in my room learning together, watching random YouTube videos, gossiping, and as my mom would say “giggling like little kids”. We get another hobby to do together (not like we really needed another one), get to grow our collection of nail supplies, and our nails have the chance to be free of acrylics.

I think that moments like this are what life is all about and is the definition of girlhood: two best-friends sitting together painting their nails, talking about their days, and not caring about the outside world.
